March 2022 Newsletter

Grace and peace to you in Jesus!

Dear Sisters and Brothers at Grace,

March means Lent.  Ash Wednesday is March 2nd.  We have the imposition of ashes all day, from 7AM till the service at 6:30PM.  The Ash Wednesday service will include the imposition of ashes as well as the Lord’s Supper.  Lent is upon us.  Don’t forget to pick up a Lenten devotion from Lutheran Hour Ministries called, “Suffering Servant.”  We have them in the narthex or call the office and ask.

March 12th is a big day for our family.  Our son, Andrew is marrying his beloved Nicole at 2PM that Saturday.  You are invited to the wedding.  You are all part of our family, and we want as many of you as can make it to attend the wedding.  After the service there will be a short desert reception in the Fellowship Hall.  Thank you all for being such a wonderful and loving congregation, not only to me, but to my family.  Andrew loves all of you and is so thankful to all of you for your care.  We are so blessed to have Nicole join us not only as a Lingsch but also as a Lutheran and member of our Grace family!  Please keep Andrew and Nicole in your prayers not only on the 12th but every day after as they live in God’s love as husband and wife until death parts them.

March 20th is a Sunday and the Elders’ Annual Fish and Shrimp Fry.  We look forward to having you all in attendance.  Your Elders work hard to batter and fry about 40 Lbs. of fish and about 20 Lbs. of shrimp.  We may need to increase those numbers this year!  The word is out.  This is the best fish fry anywhere!  Let me quote the pastor, “This is the best fish fry anywhere!”  We have our homemade hushpuppy king, Chris (Hushpuppy) Mogelvang, making the best hushpuppies this side of the Mississippi.  We also have Patrick (Coleslaw) Perri who is the king of the coleslaw.  His slaw is the best this side of…yup you guessed it…the Mississippi!  Our fish is fresh Cod, flown in direct, from wherever they catch fresh Cod, hand battered and deep fried.  It’s the best, this side of…I don’t even need to say it!  We also have some baked Cod for the healthy diners.  Our shrimp are fresh/frozen, pre-battered and butterflied, fried to golden brown by none other than Andy (Butterfly Shrimp) Koehneke.  (Side note, at just under 7 feet tall Andy is the best Elder basketball player we have!)  Best shrimp this side of…. We have Craig (Frenchie Fry) Johnson working the fryer and making the perfectly crisp fries.  They are the best fries…you get it by now!  There is even some Lutheran lemonade(beer) served ice cold along with regular lemonade and iced tea.  Marty (Drinks are on the House) Root will be tending bar.  We make our sauces fresh, from scratch, best anywhere!  We have Lee (Tartar Sauce) Geltz and Dale (Cocktail Sauce) Steffens working their magic.   Desserts! don’t even get me started.  Best anywhere!  We have Austin (Apple Crumble) Gomez, Phil (Neapolitan Ice Cream) Wehmeyer, and Tom (Peach Cobbler) Murray baking up a storm.  We also have Steve (Pots and Pans) Beights and Ben (Fish/Shrimp Runner) Borchelt, along with newcomers Tom (Jack of all Trades) Meyer and Niles (Whatever is needed) Jehn.  To quote everyone at the fish fry last year, “It’s the best fish fry this side of the Mississippi or anywhere period!”  Now how can you miss that!  Come and meet the Elders of Grace and enjoy the best fish/shrimp fry around!

Well, I guess that covers March!  God bless you all as we journey through Lent, through suffering and cross, with Jesus, to the joyful day of resurrection!

In His Service,

Pastor Lingsch
