I'm a shower guy, but from time to there is nothing better than a nice hot bath.  I once rode my motorcycle from Washington DC to Pittsburgh PA which is about 250 miles. It was a beautiful October day, sunny and 68 when i started out.  Gradually as my journey progressed it got cloudy and then as evening approach the sun went down.  Going through the mountains of West Virgina it dropped a good 30 dgrees and by the time I pulled into the garage in our home in Finleyville PA I was COLD!  I walked right into the house shivering and shaking and said hello, bypassing hugs and kisses and went right up stairs to our big garden tub; ran a hot bath and slid down into that nice steamy hot water.  WOW did it feel great to get warmed up. 

What does a warm bath have to do with our Lenten Journey?  Well lent is a baptismal journey.  Baptism is even better than a nice warm bath.  It is a washing away of sin.  It is a bath that not only makes you clean spiritually, but it is a bath that raps you in the warmth of God's love and blessing!  There is nothing colder in the world than sin and death.  Yet God in his mercy has given us the warm baptism of forgiveness in Christ Jesus.  In baptism we die to sin, as one of my professor's at the seminary use to say, "We get the whole death thing over with in Baptism!" 

So as your journey this Lenten-tide, return to your baptism, whether you were baptized as an infant or an adult.  Remember what God has done in your baptism.  He has given you life and forgiveness.  Like that warm bath on a cold day those waters are a joy to return to again and again!
